In a very sad incident in Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu, unfortunately, at least 36 people have lost their lives and about 100 others are now in the hospital after drinking bad liquor. This really unfortunate event happened on a Tuesday night and mostly affected folks in Karunapuram. The bad effects of the illegal alcohol showed up on Wednesday, and many had to go quickly to Kallakurichi Government Medical College and Hospital. They also had to rush to other medical facilities in Salem, Villupuram, and JIPMER in Puducherry.
Two ladies and a trans person were among those who passed away, but there might be more as some died before getting any medical help. This sad situation has really shaken up the community and pushed local and state officials into quick action.
Kallakurichi District Collector M S Prasanth wasted no time going to the hospitals looking after the victims and their families. The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M K Stalin felt really sad and shocked by this incident. He even went ahead to arrest four people connected to the bad liquor distribution. He will take strong action against any officials who were not careful enough.

The political side of things is also coming out now. Edappadi K. Palaniswami from the opposition plans to visit the victims, making it a big deal for the ruling DMK party. Even actor Vijay’s new Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party criticized how the government handled things here, asking for stronger ways to prevent such incidents.
To deal with all this mess, more than 2,000 police officers are now in Kallakurichi trying to keep things calm and help with investigations. The government promises to make liquor laws stricter and watch over places where these problems usually happen more often.
This very sad thing that happened not only shows how risky illegal alcohol can be but also asks everyone in the community and government to work together for public health and safety like good buddies would do.
