MYSURU, AUGUST 13, 2026: To address the long-standing issue of accumulated garbage and waste that local residents have been facing, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) launched a massive special cleanliness drive today in the Eden Garden area under Ward 10.
80-Point Cleanliness Campaign for the 80th Independence Day
To mark the occasion of the country’s 80th Independence Day, the commissioner of Mysuru City Corporation issued an order to identify and completely clear 80 prominent Garbage Vulnerable (GV) points across the city. Officially launched today, this intensive campaign will run until August 31. Beyond clearing waste, the initiative features a transformation plan that includes planting saplings, drawing colorful traditional rangolis, and painting murals on walls to beautify the cleared areas. The Commissioner urged local citizens and public representatives to actively join hands in this drive.
Public Grievances and Site Inspection
Local residents reported that due to Eden Garden’s proximity to several hospitals, medical waste along with other garbage was being routinely dumped in the area. Furthermore, citizens alleged that animal waste
from nearby chicken and mutton shops was also being thrown at the site. This accumulation caused severe foul odor, mosquito and fly infestation, creating a major health hazard and nuisance for the neighborhood.
Responding promptly to public complaints, MCC Commissioner Smt. M.K. Savitha personally visited the site to inspect the situation and launched the cleanup operation alongside her team.
Assurance for Streetlights and CCTV Cameras
During the inspection, residents drew the Commissioner’s attention to another pressing issue: the lack of functioning streetlights in the area, which led to unsocial and illegal activities after dark. They requested the immediate installation of proper street lighting and CCTV surveillance cameras to prevent illegal dumping and maintain safety. Responding positively, the MCC Commissioner assured the public that all these grievances would be resolved at the earliest.

The event was organized and led by prominent community figures including Counain Miraj (Social Worker), Khalilullah Khan, Abdul Wajid, Advocate Mudassir Ali Khan of the Unique Youth Foundation, and Ajmal. Shri Habibullah, Editor of Mediagram, also attended the event and extended his support to the initiative.
Demand for Continuous Maintenance
While the day-long drive successfully restored cleanliness to the Eden Garden area, local residents urged the Corporation to ensure that routine sanitation efforts continue daily, along with strict enforcement measures to prevent people from dumping garbage at the location again in the future.
