
Mysuru, 10th August 2024: In the heart of Mysuru, the artistic spirit thrives, and a new cinematic gem has emerged from this vibrant cultural hub. The short film “Sulochana,” directed by the talented Dharmesh M S, is making waves in the independent film circuit. A graduate of CAVA Fine Arts College, Mysuru, and Chitrakala Parishath Fine Art College in Bangalore, Dharmesh is an artist and graphic designer who has passionately transitioned into the world of film direction.
The poster for “Sulochana” was unveiled today in a special event by Mime Ramesh, the founder of GPIER Theatre Group Mysore and a former Rangayana artist. The release was graced by notable personalities, including Music Director Hari Kavya, Padmashree NSD, SomKumar Shambe gowda, and Mohammed Haneef. The film’s music, composed by Hari Kavya, features heart-touching lyrics penned by Siddu Prasanna, while the cinematography, helmed by Raghavendra Shastri from SRFTI Kolkata, beautifully captures the essence of this poignant story.

“Sulochana” has already garnered acclaim, recently winning the Indian Independent Film Festival award and securing a spot in the Goa International Competition (GIFC). The film’s lead role is played by Sampath Maitreya, a seasoned stage and film actor, bringing depth and authenticity to the narrative.
The story revolves around Sulochana, an orphan with only basic education, who lives in a world overshadowed by addiction. In a scrap yard, she encounters boys lost to the vices of solvent inhalants, smoking, and drinking. Despite her challenges, Sulochana dreams of helping these boys overcome their addictions and lead meaningful lives. Yet, her struggle brings her face-to-face with the harsh realities of a brutal system, testing her resolve and spirit.
Dharmesh, reflecting on his journey, shared, “I always dreamed of making a movie when I started in theatre, but family reasons delayed my dream. Now, I’m experimenting with short films that carry serious messages.”



“Sulochana” is more than just a film; it’s a powerful narrative that sheds light on the human spirit’s resilience, even in the darkest of places.
