New AI cameras installed to monitor traffic violations in Mysuru

Mysuru, June 30: In a significant move to curb traffic violations and reduce road accidents, the Superintendent of Police, Mysuru District, announced on June 26, 2024, the installation of traffic cameras across the city. The initiative comes in response to the alarming number of road accidents, with an average of 450 fatalities annually within the Mysore district police limits.

To address this issue, the police department has installed 50 cameras at 23 strategic locations, with a special focus on the N R Constituency. These cameras will be operational from July 1, 2024, and will monitor violations such as riding two-wheelers without helmets, triple riding, driving without seat belts (including co-passengers), and using mobile phones while driving.

When a violation is detected, the vehicle owner will receive an SMS notification, and a fine receipt will be sent to their address. Fines can be paid online at http://payfine.mchallan.com or at the nearest police station. Failure to pay the fines may result in penalties under Section 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which include up to three months imprisonment, a fine of Rs. 500, or both.

Cameras have already been installed near key locations such as Soorya Narayana Temple in Rajivanagar, Devanooru Lake to N R Mohalla Road, Shanthi Nagar to Nimrah Masjid Junction, and the Udayagiri Police Station. These areas have seen a high incidence of minors riding bikes recklessly and endangering others.

The Mysore district police urge the public to adhere to traffic rules and cooperate with this initiative.   1. Kindly install the cameras at Teresian college- Dr. Rajkumar road junction. A lot of violations are being observed even in presence of Police.
